Our Latest Presentation May 7th, 2008 The
halls were alive with the sound of blues on Wednesday, May 7 at Kennedy Middle
School. The sweet notes of a drawling slide guitar, wailing harmonica, and
humming washboard were courtesy of The Rainy Day Blues Society’s newly launched
Blues in the Schools program. Terrapin Tim Volem led the class of some 60 eighth
graders on the musical journey with the help of Jerry Zybach on guitar, Dino
Allbaugh on harp, and Michael Morningsun on washboard. From its beginnings in
the South to the Great Migration North to Chicago, the crew painted a colorful
picture of blues history and its unique form, brought to life with some tasty
songs, stories, and even a mini songwriting workshop.
