Blues In The Schools Music education is back, thanks to Blues in the Schools The Blues in the Schools program gives kids, elementary through high school, an exciting, educational, and interactive glimpse of the world of blues music, teaching its importance not only in history, but in basic music appreciation. Blues in the Schools offers three options to fit your school’s time and space availability: The Headliner Length: 1-1.5 hours Format: Showcases a national act in a concert format with plenty of time for a brief introduction to the blues, explanation of the instruments, Q&A. Space Requirement: Auditorium or outdoor area. Provided: All equipment, plus a Blues Booklet and an artist biography for each child. Scheduling: Dependent on tours coming through Eugene. Often requires booking several months in advance. The Opener Length: 50-60 minutes Format: Presented in up to three individual classrooms simultaneously or to several classes at once in a small auditorium. Pairs of blues educators/musicians will present an introduction to the blues and instruments brought to life with live demonstrations. Space Requirement: Classrooms or small auditorium Provided: Blues Booklet and when available, harmonicas and/or discovery CDs Scheduling: 4-6 weeks in advance The Tour Length: Half-day Format: 4-6 band members each pair up with a blues educator and simultaneously cover a different aspect of the blues and a different instrument for 20 minutes in participating individual classrooms. When each classroom has heard each duo, everyone assembles in the auditorium or outside for a mini concert to see how all the instruments work together. Space Requirement: Classrooms and an auditorium or outdoor area Provided: Blues Booklet and when available, harmonicas and/or discovery CDs Scheduling: 4-6 weeks in advance All presenters have passed criminal history background checks and are fully trained through our Blues Educator Program.
