Rainy Day Blues Society Mission Statement |
The Rainy Day Blues Society is an organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion and enhancement of blues music. Our stated mission is to assist in the preservation, promotion and enhancement of the blues as part of our cultural heritage and tradition through public awareness, education and fostering an enviroment in which local artist can grow and develop. |
We will strive to:
1. Organize and coordinate public events of performances featuring blues music
through sponsoring, producing and promoting the following types of events
a. Regularly scheduled showcases where artists can perform before a live audience
b. Annual talent contests to qualify for the International Blues Talent Competition sponsored by The Blues Foundation and which is limited to acts or individual artists who are not signed to a major label recording contract or professional management contract.
2. Contribute to the cultural diversity of the community by sponsoring, producing and promotion of a regularly scheduled, annual festival of blues artists.
3. Establish and maintain an archive of Blues recordings and videos that is available to the public for the purposes of research and education.
4. Maintain a registry of performing Blues musicians.
5. Collaborate with other concerned organizations, agencies or individuals in providing education or entertaining events that are within the scope of our stated mission.
6. Establish Blues in the School programs.
7. Provide financial and other assistance to organizations that help destitute blues musicians and the low-income families of deceased blues musicians.
8. Publish a newsletter to communicate information on regional blues activities, releases of Blues recordings, features of historical and cultural significance, and Rainy Day Blues Society business to the membership and other concerned parties.
